The homeowner envisioned a stylish and functional set of built-in shelves to frame their television in the family den. The design needed to provide a substantial presence, with a shelf thickness greater than ¾” and a depth of 17”, all while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic with no visible support cleats. Additionally, the project had to be completed within a strict budget and finished in time for the holidays.

- Seamless, Sturdy Design – The shelves were constructed using a clever nested notch system, eliminating the need for visible support cleats while maintaining structural integrity.
- Budget-Friendly Build – To stay within the homeowner’s budget, the shelves were crafted from 5/8″ MDF planks, layered and offset to achieve the desired depth and edge thickness.
- Custom Finishing Touches – The front edges were trimmed for a polished, seamless look, and all joints were meticulously finished to be invisible.
- Shiplap Accent Backing – Before installing the shelves, the nook’s back wall was surfaced with shiplap paneling, adding texture and a clean, refined backdrop.
- Completed Before the Holidays – The project was finished in time for Christmas, delivering both function and style just as the homeowner envisioned.
